What is the purpose of a gentrified London to the working classes?
There is a clear divide between the working and middle classed cultures which are currently co-existing within gentrified parts of London. The sudden arrival of a culture that is so different to you, and your understanding of community can be alienating. As the middle-classes swagger into your community with their bold sense of entitlement, it is difficult to not feel as if your presence has become overshadowed. Little did you know these new crowds of middle-classed tourist would become permanent residents with in what was once considered as the ‘hoods’ and ‘ghettos’ of London.
Those 'hoods' and 'ghettos' were what you were allowed to call home. While your community feels pushed out, those who are coming in seem to be living off the vibrancy your culture left behind, like building on top of an ancient burial ground.
Take the art, push the people out. Forgot who or what inspired the vibrancy you live for.
